You’ll generally need to arrange your own transportation to Makino.
This page shares some helpful information to guide you with the arrangements.

Transportation to Makino
 

 The main way to reach Makino (マキノ)  is by JR’s Kosei Line via either Kyoto (京都) or Tsuruga (敦賀).

 From Tokyo, take the Hokuriku Shinkansen (北陸新幹線)  to Tsuruga (敦賀) .

At Tsuruga Station, transfer to the Hokuriku Main Line (北陸本線) and then board a Special Rapid Service train (新快速)  via the Kosei Line(湖西線).   Makino (マキノ) can be reached in 27 minutes from Tsuruga Station.

 From Kyoto(京都) , take a Special Rapid Service train (新快速)  bound for Tsuruga (敦賀) via the JR Kosei Line (湖西線) , and you will arrive in about one hour.
From Osaka (大阪), the journey takes approximately one and a half hours through Kyoto.

 From Nagoya  (名古屋) , it is recommended to travel via Maibara (米原) , take the Hokuriku Main Line (北陸本線)  to Ōmi-Shiotsu (近江塩津) , and then transfer to the Kosei Line (湖西線).
The travel time is approximately 40 minutes from Maibara, not including transfer waiting time at Ōmi-Shiotsu.
